We provide a variety of services
free-of-charge to UCLA campus employees*. Any request for our services should be directed through
our online request form located at
http://www.ergonomics.ucla.edu/eval_request.cfm
Our services consist of the following:
Personal On-Site Consultation
We provide onsite consultation for all campus employees.
If you are feeling discomfort when working, whether or not you think it is related to work, you
can schedule a personal consultation with one of our campus ergonomists. We will consult with you
regarding your workstation set-up and your postural habits, and make any recommendations for improvement.
New employees and those not feeling discomfort also are welcome to request personal consultations.
You will first be asked to complete an online ergonomics training / assessment tool prior to our visit.
We will contact your supervisor to ensure that you will receive the necessary time to complete this training.
Web-Based Training / Self Evaluation
In addition to the self-assessment located on this website
http://www.ergonomics.ucla.edu/seval_gen.cfm, a more comprehensive web-based training course is available.
As mentioned above, any new employee or employee not currently experiencing discomfort will be asked to go through
this training as a first step to the evaluation process. All UCLA campus employees are welcome to request access
to this training. Please contact us for more information.
Back Safety Training
For jobs that are more physically demanding, especially jobs requiring lifting and materials handling, we can
provide back safety training. The training is tailored to suit the needs of a specific group or department, and
consists of a group presentation as well as consultation for improving the ergonomics of specific job tasks.
Job-Specific Training
We are available to provide ergonomics training or consultation for any campus job. While the majority of
our consultations are related to computer workstations, we also provide ergonomics consultation for laboratory,
kitchen, custodial, maintenance and shop-related positions. Please let us know on the request form if the job
is non-computer related.
Group Training
We can provide department-wide trainings in the form of group presentations (to larger groups of employees)
and group workstation consultations (to smaller groups). Please mention on the online request if interested
in receiving group training.
Ergonomics Product Demonstration Lab & Loaner Program
We have many ergonomic products for employees to test out located at the EH&S Office. This includes
everything from chairs to mini-keyboards. A more comprehensive list can be seen at this Equipment
at the Ergonomics Demonstration Lab. In most cases, we will invite you to stop by following a personal
consultation, but any UCLA employee is welcome to schedule a visit to our office (small groups of 1-3 are preferable).
Many products are available for loan so you can test them out at your workstation, generally for a period of 1-2
weeks.
*These services are only available for UCLA campus employees. We serve all departments except those within the UCLA Health System. If you are an employee of the UCLA Health System, please contact Jason Barry for further ergonomic assistance. Check with your supervisor/department if you are unsure if you belong to School of Medicine or the Health System. A number of medical-related departments consist of both School of Medicine employees and Health System employees.
