KEYBOARD TRAYS

There are a lot of keyboard trays on the market. Select a fully articulating system with the following options:

  • Height adjustability with an automatic, lever-free mechanism.
  • Tilt adjustability. Negative tilt adjustability may be necessary to provide neutral wrist position.
  • Swivel movement to allow for positioning directly in front of operator.
  • Easy storage under table surface while allowing sufficient leg room .
  • Sufficient clearance for legs of user when positioned at proper height for use.
  • Sufficient surface size to accommodate keyboard and pointing device.

Proper positioning and height of the keyboard is the most important factor in setting up an ergonomic computer workstation. The keyboard and pointing device should be positioned as follows:

  • Position most frequently used section of keyboard directly in center front of operator.
  • Height should provide for relaxed shoulder position with the elbows at approximately 100 to 110 degree angle and the wrists in neutral position.
  • Pointing device should be at the same level as the keyboard and as close to the operator as possible.
  • Keyboard should be tilted to allow for neutral wrist position. This may result in a reverse or negative tilt. If the user is sitting upright the keyboard should (in most situations) be in a slightly negative tilt in order for the wrists to be in neutral while keying. If the user is sitting reclined, the keyboard may need to be at a postive tilt for the wrists to be in a neutral position.
