Overview
No-Touch Cleaning Systems are used in areas with sealed floors and walls such as bathrooms, hallways, gym floors, cafeterias, and lobbies. These units cannot be used in restrooms with low exposed drywall around sinks, toilets, and other fixtures. They are essentially spray-and-vac systems where a solution is sprayed on or released on the floor or wall, in some cases slightly agitated with a brush, and then the dirty water is vacuumed up. These types of systems help reduce and nearly eliminate hand scrubbing and hand mopping. The learning curve on these units is fairly low and the benefits of reducing injuries are high.
When comparing no-touch cleaning systems, it is important to consider the size of the tank along with air watt or airwatt rating. The size of the tanks can range from 2 to 20 gallons. 8-gallon tanks are sufficient for smaller areas such as 2 to 4 stall bathrooms. Larger areas with shower stalls or 8 stalls require a 15+ gallon tank.
The airwatt rating is a ratio of the airflow and water lift. The airflow and water lift are measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM) and inches of water (inH2O) respectively. Manufacturers use CFM to convey the strength of a vacuum, a higher CFM will move more air through the unit at a faster rate than a lower CFM unit. Water lift, also known as static pressure refers to the suction force. Airwatts can be expressed in the following formula:
(CFM x inH2O)/8.5 = Airwatt Rating
A no-touch cleaning system should have about 1000 airwatts in order to achieve a desirable cleaning outcome.
Decision-makers should review the following considerations.
- Space: Area(s) where the no-touch system will be used. Is the unit appropriate for the size of the space and will there be obstacles or furniture to navigate?
- Surfaces: Type of surface(s) the no-touch system will be used on. Does the area have sealed walls and floors?
- Users: The physical characteristics of the end-users. Does the unit accommodate different height users?
- Storage: The units will need to be stored somewhere. Is there storage space in an existing custodial closet?
- Portability. Ease by which a user can get the equipment to the job site. Is there elevator access?
- Maintenance: Ease of emptying collection tanks, changing filters bags/brushes. Is a special tool needed for regular field and daily maintenance?
- Power: Access to power. Units can be corded or battery-powered. Are there outlets available? Is the cord long enough? Is the battery capable of lasting the entire shift?

For small/medium areas, such as 2-4 stall restrooms. The Waxie Versa II eliminates bending, stooping, and reaching associated with traditional bathroom cleaning techniques, I.E. mopping floors, cleaning toilet bowls, or wiping sinks and toilets. |
For larger areas, such as locker rooms and dormitory bathrooms with showers. Excellent suction. Tank capacity allows for cleaning large bathrooms and hallways without having to stop and refill. A versatile unit that can be used on multiple surfaces including carpet. |
