The decentralization of computer or office work has caused a shift in both the needs and risk exposure for both employees and departments. Mobile computer work encompasses both FlexWorkers who may work fully or partially from a remote location, as well as computer work that takes place away from a traditional desk or cubicle. Whether in temporary touchdown stations, shared collaborative spaces, in the field, or traveling between a remote work location and campus it is important to setup a comfortable and productive computer workstation.

Departments providing employees with a laptop or tablet computer are strongly encouraged to develop a remote worker mobile computing package. The contents of a mobile computing packages should be developed to balance operational needs and budgetary constraints of the department with the individual employee needs.
