The decentralization of computer or office work has caused a shift in both the needs and risk exposure for both employees and departments. Mobile computer work encompasses both FlexWorkers who may work fully or partially from a remote location, as well as computer work that takes place away from a traditional desk or cubicle. Whether in temporary touchdown stations, shared collaborative spaces, in the field, or traveling between a remote work location and campus it is important to setup a comfortable and productive computer workstation.
Mobile Computing Package
Departments providing employees with a laptop or tablet computer are strongly encouraged to develop a remote worker mobile computing package. The contents of a mobile computing packages should be developed to balance operational needs and budgetary constraints of the department with the individual employee needs. Standardization is encouraged, however one size cannot meet all employees, so establishing a core package and augmenting on a case-by-case basis is encouraged.
